Potential Side Effects

The VeanaSeal™ procedure eliminates the use of heat (or thermal energy) so there is virtually no risk of nerve or skin injury or any major reaction to the anaesthetic. As the medical ‘superglue’ sets within a few minutes, there is not the prolonged healing process associated with ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy and medical stockings are not required afterwards.

There are no necessary steps or precautions to take before or after the procedure and no restrictions on travel. In some instances additional treatment will be required with ultrasound guided sclerotherapy.

The VenaSeal procedure has been shown in a prospective, international multi-center study to be as effective and safe as Radiofrequency treatment.

The RF Ablation procedure is performed as a medical necessity as diagnosed by a trained vein specialist. It is not a direct treatment for spider veins or cosmetic issues, However successful varicose vein treatment would produce significant cosmetic improvements.

Although, VenaSeal treatment of the veins is considered to be a very safe procedure, this like any other procedure may have some potential risks, which we try to minimize. The FDA reviewed the safety and efficacy data on the VenaSeal® system and found it to be safe and effective for the treatment of superficial varicose veins of the legs. The most important complication risk is deep venous thrombosis (DVT).

However, since this is a known phenomenon we have a number of preventive steps that if were followed well the risks would significantly be minimized. Other less serious but potential risks include cellulitis/infection, some blood loss, bruising, mild pain and numbness/tingling in the treated area. In our experience, majority of our patients have enjoyed a wonderful benefit by undergoing this minimally invasive procedure.
